I have been under a great deal of stress recently. My parents died a few months apart from each other. My ex and I split up right after. I moved to a different state and now my car is broke down and I have children to care for. I am also going through a nasty custody battle. All of this happened in less than a year and now I cannot sleep. I can not get things out of my head so I just lie in bed wide awake. I feel I would feel better about things if I wasnt so tired all the time.
I have tried tylenol pm. It only makes me feel worse. I dont really know people around where I live to talk to. I dont have family any more to heip.

    do you have a Dr to ask for help?
    try tylenol pm, they are not addictive and can help
    perhaps a church group to talk to? or community?
    sometimes just getting it off your chest and another opinion can ease your stress.

    It seems that your insomnia may be rooted from stress and anxiety. Mayby you should talk to your doctor about persciption strength sleeping pills or Xanax.

    For the most part, your insomnia may well work itself out if you could just sit down and flesh out your recent problems with a friend. Rogerian therapy is best when all you need is an ear to listen to you. Failing that you can always try Benadryl if you have it lying around the house. The active ingredient, diphenhydramine, is a potent anti-histamine whose side effect is drowsiness (usually ~40 minutes or so). You can find it [diphenhydramine] under different names at any local drug store selling sleep aides.

    P.S. I would suggest warm milk and cookies (or maybe ice cream) - dairy products have tons of tryptophan in them (and we all know how fast tryptophan will knock you out!) The starch in cookies and ice cream will help the tryptophan operon/production (read: it makes you go to sleep). Good luck!
