I always have a hard time getting to sleep, and I am usually awake till 2 am or later. How can I sleep more easily?
Some things that have helped me or tips I learned in psychology class include:
-Not drinking caffeine at least 4 hours before sleep
- Not eating an hour before sleep
- Making sure all the lights from clocks, stereos, etc. in the room are covered up
- Making the area you sleep in just for sleep, so that you associate it with sleeping. That means don't text, play guitar, etc. on your bed/in your bed.
- Take some deep breaths while starting to sleep, it will help the thoughts in your head go away faster
- Take 15 minutes to relax before going to bed.
That's kinda helped my insomnia, but it does still come back sometimes. Guess not everything can find a perfect cure.

try talking to your doctor, he will give you some sleeping pills and just take one a few hours b4 you want to go to sleep and you will be out like a light bulb

I have to take script meds, but before that,
I tried Melatonin. Natural thing that used to help me. Gotta believe in it though.
Exercise vigorously, but not in the evening.
Shower, massage, relax before bed.
Don't use your bed for ANYTHING besides sexual activities and sleep.
Don't drink energy drinks/sodas/etc after 2pm
Make sure your bed is comfortable/environment ideal.
See if playing soft music, or natural sounds, helps. Some people even go to sleep listening to metal. Whatever works.
Good luck

Whenever I couldn't sleep, I would always get super anxious every time I looked at my clock. I would think "okay if I feel asleep now, I would get four hours of sleep. If I feel asleep now, I would get two hours of sleep." It was bad. But then one night, I turned my clock to the wall, so I wouldn't know what time it was. I would tell myself it wasn't as late as I thought it was, and it would calm me down. It has worked ever since.

been through it …. also i would only use pills as a last resort because most can cause dependance
1. Sleep earlier.
2.Wake up earlier. U'll be up longer and u'll tire out and wanna sleep earlier.
3.Do something that tires u out b4 u sleep. (lift heavy weights, read a boring book, have sex<—jk, stand up for a long time, exercise, watch some boring TV).
4. Close ur eyes and count until u fall asleep.

Do math problems in your head. But they have to be pretty hard ones, not just 2 + 2. That should put you right to sleep.

Oh I sympathise!
I had trouble too then found this site which has lots of good ideas.
I try to keep to a routine and not have anything to drink or eat too late.
I don't watch the late news (depressing) and try to read in bed rather than watch TV.
Good luck and check out rest of the advice on the site!

Don't listen to those who say to get sleeping pills. I've had bad insomnia ever since I went off to college and had a roommate. My doctor prescribed me sleeping pills. That was 4 years ago, and I can't stop taking them now. Not that I'm dependent now because they feel nice (albeit they do–e.g. ambien and temazepam) but because I tricked my body into learning that I can't fall asleep without medicine. What ever you do, don't try to cure your insomnia with sleeping pills. It's a long and hard battle that has more troubles down the road than those that are curable now. Try to make a routine and exhaust yourself with studies and physical activity during the day. Ease your mind of anxiety by taking on more tasks during the day to reduce tomorrow's workload and hopefully not let your mind race at night. Hope you have good luck. Insomnia is the worst.

i tried using valerian. didnt work the first few nights but kicked in on like the 3rd. the one specifically for "night" would be the one to look for. It's not a type of sleeping pill, its strictly a herbal medicine, so it does no harm to you in the long term, and you soon find that you dont have to rely on it to get to sleep.
another thing that turns off your mind is if you relax before you go to bed. for example, if you are on the computer late at night then you go straight to be your mind doesnt wind down, and you find you are really awake.
hope it all works out!
