If you wake up several times during the night, this indicates that your sleep cycle isn’t deep enough. Since it may be natural for you to wake up when the sleep cycle naturally gets light, the goal of this page is to help you deepen your sleep as a whole.

If you wake up too early in the morning, it could be for the same reason, or it could be because of learned behavior. Consider how tired you are during the day when you wake up early. If you are usually tired, it is likely that the problem lies in not getting deep enough sleep.

Throughout the night, you go through 60 - 120 minute sleep cycles. It’s different for everyone, but most people are around 90 minutes.

During this cycle, you go through 5 stages of sleep. Scientists believe that only 2 of these stages are essential to our well being, the 4th stage: Deep sleep, and the 5th Stage: Rapid Eye Movement (REM).

During the night, you’re supposed to sink deeper and deeper into sleep, and then around half way through each sleep cycle (during phase 4) you rise up through the lighter levels of sleep to approach stage 5, REM. It’s around this time, when you’re in the lightest phase of sleep, it’s easiest to wake up, and since you don’t sleep deeply, you tend wake up fully at this time.

Everyone wakes up during the night. Your problem is your not sleeping deep enough so you’re aware of it and wake up fully.

Let’s try and find out why.

First, if you aren’t going to sleep at the same time every night, these could be throwing off your sleep cycle. This includes weekends - you should go to bed at roughly the same time every night, and you should have a routine before you go to bed comprised of things that are relaxing only. Your body needs predictable sleep patterns to have steady, deep sleep cycles.

Then you should consider the four main areas that cause sleep to get interrupted through the night.  To discover what these areas are and to actually cure your insomnia for good so you can sleep through the night, I highly recommend you learn more in my Advanced Sleep Course.

If waking up too early is a problem for you, you might consider taking naps in the afternoon. Some people naturally wake up early and take a nap around 3 - 4 pm to make up for sleep deprivation caused.
