We live in a day and age where the highly effiecient people who can get the most done reap the biggest rewards. Unfortunately, this is probably the leading cause of insomnia.

This is a concept that Dr. Siegfried Haug discusses in his book, I Want to Sleep: Unlearning Insomnia.

Dr. Haug shows us that there’s two kinds of thinking, and without going into the science of it, can be summed up as “wired” thinking and “tired” thinking.

The message of this book is profound, and to summerize: You can’t fall asleep when your wired, and the more tired you are, the better you will sleep.

The best thing you can do to get rest is a combinaton of two things:

  1. Change from a “fighting” insomnia or “trying to fall asleep” mindset to a “relaxing, supportive, soothing” mindset. Develope the soothing mindset before going to sleep is essential - the way our mind works is that it focuses around whatever we put our time and effort towards.
  2. Have a bedtime routine. This should be consistant every night, and you’ll want to spend enough time before bed doing things that bring you into a tired state of mind. Never actively try to go to sleep - instead, focus on enjoying being relaxed and the rest you get from just laying down and being calm.

If you think stress, anxiety, and being too buzy in general is hurting your sleep or consuming too much of your life, I highly recommend reading Dr. Haug’s book, I Want to Sleep: Unlearning Insomnia

This book is loaded with mindsets and techniques you can use to get to sleep, and since Dr. Haug is a well-known sleep expert and therapist, you’re basically getting therapy from one of the best experts in the feild.

The book reads like a story, and it feels like you have a personal coach there with you, captivativating your attention to help you understand the concepts quickly and easily.

What I think it really comes down to - why this book seems like it’d be powerful for the “just get this cured” insomniacs - is that COACHING is imprinted into the written words. I think even the most in-denial-but-totally-wired people would be moved by this book. Because of this, I have no doubt that anyone who reads this book will gain a superior understanding of what “wired” things are and what “tired” things are.
