Always being tired can be the result of different things. On one hand, it could be that your temperature cycle has gone flat and your health just isn’t in the right place to stimulate you - you can never get fully awake.
On the other hand, you could not be getting restorative sleep. This can be caused by a few things.
Throughout the night, you go through 60 - 120 minute sleep cycles. It’s different for everyone, but most people are around 90 minutes.
During this cycle, you go through 5 stages of sleep. Scientists believe that only 2 of these stages are essential to our well being, the 4th stage: Deep sleep, and the 5th Stage: Rapid Eye Movement (REM).
During the night, you’re supposed to sink deeper and deeper into sleep, and then around half way through each sleep cycle (during phase 4) you rise up through the lighter levels of sleep to approach stage 5, REM. The problem could be that you don’t sleep deeply, and so during stage 4 you don’t experience the deep, restorative sleep you need. (Click here to see the insomnia textbook)
In any case, these next questions should help you identify the sources of your tiredness.
How much sunlight, exercise, water, and nutrients do you get on daily basis?
-I feel like I’ve got these covered.
Do you have stressful or intensive days?
-I’m fairly relaxed in day-by-day life.
-It’s possible that I’m too caught up in my problems; I feel somewhat wired at night.
-Anxiety could be behind my sleeping problem.
Do you have a lot of stimulants (caffeine, nicotine, alcohol), especially in the hours before bed time?
-No; except for the occasional cup of coffee or beer.
Do you have any of the following things keeping you awake?
-I’m kept awake by hormonal problems.
-I’m kept awake by restlessness in my legs.
-I’m kept awake by breathing issues, or I’m woken up by my own snoring.
-I’m kept awake by chronic pain and / or fibromyalgia.
-Something else is keeping me awake
